DetailsComplete swimming pool engineering — filtration, circulation, disinfection, heating and plant rooms — designed and supervised for resorts, residences and commercial facilities across East Africa and beyond.
A swimming pool is architecture above the waterline and serious engineering below it. Water clarity, hygiene and bather comfort are decided in the plant room — by circulation, filtration, disinfection, heating and control. TechMEPi Engineering designs and supervises complete pool systems for resorts, hotels, residential developments and commercial facilities, including demanding coastal and island environments where materials and plant must survive salt-laden air. From a single villa pool to a resort with spas and water features, the engineering principles are the same — and so is the discipline with which we apply them.
Good pool water begins with good hydraulics. We design circulation from first principles: a turnover rate suited to the pool type and bathing load, balanced flow between inlets and outlets, correctly sized balance tanks for deck-level pools, and pipework verified by hydraulic calculation using tools such as Pipe Flow Expert. The aim is uniform distribution with no dead zones — because chemicals cannot disinfect water that never reaches them.
Media filtration is sized at realistic velocities, not brochure figures. Chemical dosing is controlled automatically on measured chlorine and pH values, with UV or ozone secondary treatment where bathing loads or water features justify it. For heating, heat pumps and solar thermal systems are well suited to the region's climate; we select plant for energy efficiency and durability — particularly in coastal locations, where corrosion shortens the life of poorly specified equipment. Backwash water, chemical storage and plant room drainage are engineered alongside the pool itself, so daily operation stays safe and simple.
We provide hydraulic design and calculations, plant room layouts and schematics, filtration and dosing specifications, heating system design, tender documentation, contractor evaluation, site supervision and witnessed commissioning through to stable, proven water quality. For existing pools we assess underperforming plant — cloudy water, high chemical consumption and short filter runs almost always trace back to hydraulics or undersized filtration rather than bad luck.
Pool water treatment is designed to recognised international guidance, including the principles published by the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG), alongside applicable local health requirements. Our wider building services background matters here: a pool touches plumbing, drainage, ventilation, heating and electrical systems, and we engineer those interfaces as one coordinated design rather than a collection of separate contracts. With 18+ years of experience and project work across six countries — including resort environments in the Indian Ocean — TechMEPi delivers pools that stay clear, safe and economical to run.
Pool circulation — clarity by hydraulics
A skimmer pool draws surface water through wall-mounted skimmers — simpler and cheaper, suited to smaller private pools. A deck-level pool overflows continuously into a perimeter channel and balance tank, giving the flat, mirror-like finish expected in resorts and premium developments. Deck-level systems demand more engineering — balance tank sizing, channel hydraulics, higher circulation — which is exactly where design quality shows.
Yes. Heat pumps perform very well in the region's climate, and solar thermal collectors extend the swimming season at low running cost — often the two are combined. We size heating from the pool's actual heat losses, specify covers to cut evaporation, and select plant for efficiency and durability, so comfortable water temperature does not become the largest line on the energy bill.
Yes — and the cause is usually engineering, not chemistry. Cloudy water, short filter runs and heavy chemical use typically trace back to poor circulation, undersized filtration or an inadequate balance tank. We assess the existing plant against the pool's real bathing load, then design targeted upgrades to filtration, hydraulics or dosing control that restore clarity and cut running costs.
Yes. Spas, splash pads, infinity edges and children's pools each have their own hydraulic and hygiene demands — higher turnover rates, dedicated dosing and careful balance tank design. We engineer them as part of the overall pool plant strategy so shared plant rooms stay compact, maintainable and safe, and each water body meets the quality its bathers require.
